Rye House

Location: Boonwurrung Country (Rye)

Category: Residential - Coastal

Architect: Wolveridge Architects

Year Completed: 2022

Project Description:

Set amongst coastal scrub, a gentle insertion of the house within the surrounding landscape is enabled through an indigenous coastal planting design.

In a rolling extension up from the coastal dune, the garden grounds the house, setting up a synergy between the built form and the surrounding landscape. The soft, paired back palette of the house is reflected in the landscape, whilst a timber deck extends the house into the outdoors. The design has been thoughtfully executed to minimize fencing and visual obstruction to the pool, allowing the sweeping coastal scrub to draw the eye. The planting palette of soft, fine-foliage grasses and sprawling indigenous shrubs creates movement, softening the hard lines of the built footprint.
