Project Description:

A local, textured planting palette frames the journey up to the house and out to the sweeping view of the ocean.

Sitting atop a sloping site, the dark façade of the house highlights the journey through the coastal garden. The steep site is broken up into terraces, using curved steel walls and a winding gravel pathway to define the human movement through the garden and up to the house. Indigenous tea trees and banksias assist in grounding the building while groundcovers of local indigenous and native species promote a sense of place, establishing and locating the house within its environs. At the rear, lush poolside planting provides year-round interest softening the courtyard and framing views out to the ocean of greens, shadows, and forms.
