Project Description:
A secluded Japanese-inspired retreat nestled within the bustling urban fabric of the inner-north cityscape.
This small terrace-house courtyard utilises strategic angles within the concrete form to enhance and elongate the internal space out into the garden. The garden features a variety of Japanese plant species, including bamboo and maple for seasonal colour and reflection, as well as fine foliage to soften the clean concrete lines. A concrete pond deepens the sense of stillness and tranquility further. The crazy paving and riverstone ground plane further instill cohesion across the project, bringing together the old and the new material elements. Warm red hues are reflected in the timber seating and brick wall, and cool dark hues in the concrete walls, riverstone, and house façade.
