Project Description:

A lush courtyard nestled behind a row of historic Victorian terrace houses, enhancing and highlighting the textural façade of the terrace through lush planting and textural surfaces.

The heritage-listed terrace serves as a rich backdrop for this East Melbourne courtyard. The existing hues of the red brick and bluestone façade are honoured throughout this project by introducing oxidised corten steel and filetti stone, complementing the tones of the existing façade. The raised steel planters frame and enhance a sense of enclosure and intimacy within the courtyard, containing a lush planting of strappy, deep green plants to transform the space into a textural oasis. Through time, the planting will climb up and soften the brick façade, greening the space and providing a vibrant outlook from all levels of the house.
