St Mary MacKillop Primary, Bannockburn

Location: Wadawurrung Country (Bannockburn)

Category: Educational - Primary

Architects: Minx Architecture

Year Completed: 2024

Project Description:

A welcoming sense of entry into the school grounds with an activated play space through islands of natural materials.

An iteration of an ongoing project, the proposal incorporates islands into the school grounds to maintain movement of people, whilst providing areas for learning, play, and engagement. These islands of planting, rolling grassy knolls and natural timber play areas provide varied opportunities for both play and learning, whilst creating a diverse range of engaging spaces. The school’s wide street frontage is activated as an inviting entry point, funneling in parents, students and visitors. Organic timber seating provides a comfortable place for the school community to gather, blurring the space between the school yard and streetscape to provide a relaxed and welcoming sense of place.
